If you have a pull-down or pull-out faucet and you’ve noticed less water flow than before, it may be calcium buildup on your check valves. Follow these steps to clean your check valves.
There are two check valves in the pull-down and pull-out faucets: the upper check valve, located in the end of the spray head, and the lower check valve, located in the supply hose. First, let’s see which ones is causing the low flow.
Unscrew the spray head from the hose by turning it counter clockwise, then turn on the faucet and see if the water coming out of the hose has good flow. If it does, your lower check valve is fine and won’t need cleaning. If the water flow is still low, then you’ll need to clean the upper and lower check valves.
This is the upper check valve inside of the bottom of the spray head:
Use a small screwdriver to push in the middle of the quick connect to make sure it is working and clear of debris like this:
Turn the spray head over and shake to see if anything falls out. Repeat this step several times to remove all debris.
If you had good flow from the hose without the spray head attached, then you can reattach the head and the water flow should now be normal. If you are still experiencing issues, please contact customer service at 818-898-1671 or [email protected].
If you still have low flow from the hose without the spray head attached, then let’s clean the lower check valve. Turn the faucet to the off position. Put a bucket under the sink to catch any falling water. The water supply does not need to be turned off during this process.
Underneath the sink, find the hose with the quick connect in the middle.
Push up on the quick connect tab to release it and disconnect the hose. The hose coming down from the faucet has the check valve.
You can use a small pick or toothpick inside the hose to loosen any debris or calcium buildup on the check valve. Shake the hose and see if anything falls out. Repeat this step several times to remove all debris. Reconnect hose and test water flow.
